A small offering inspired by Mongolian tea traditions,
where warmth, hospitality, and stillness meet.

A MOMENT OF TEA

This piece is part of an ongoing exploration of tea as an act of care, connection, and presence.

Inspired by my time living in Mongolia as a Peace Corps volunteer from 2001–2003, this offering draws from the ritual of sharing suutei tsai—a warm, salty milk tea traditionally served to guests as a gesture of welcome.

The zine, vessel, and tea come together as a small moment: to pause, to receive, and to sit.

INSIDE YOUR TEA BAG

  • a 3D-printed vessel (not food safe)

  • a handmade accordion zine

  • a packet of instant suutei tsai, salty Mongolian milk tea

Each element is meant to be experienced slowly—together or apart.

MAKE A CUP OF MONGOLIAN TEA

  • pour the tea powder into a cup or small bowl

  • add hot water

  • stir well

  • drink and be still

Traditionally prepared in a ger (a Mongolian home), suutei tsai is made with tea, milk, water, and salt, and shared throughout the day. This version is simplified, but carries the same spirit of warmth and welcome.
